Halloween Strategy! Pumpkin Pudding.

Category: ,

Halloween is upon us!  I have been learning about some different strategies to deal with the glut of candy that children come home with.  I thought I would share some of the ideas with you.  If you have any other ideas please share them in the comment section.

-Some dentists will pay children for the candy -great idea I wonder if my dentist does that.

-You could do this too!  Pay your child per piece of candy – my daughter would choose $ over just about anything!

-We separate the candy into categories taking out all of the food coloring laden goodies for the garbage can and that leaves mostly the chocolate (at least it resembles real food).  We will then each night for a couple of nights (candy gets forgotten about quickly in our house) pick out some of our favorites and cut them up into small bits so that we can try each thing.  This helps her not feel deprived and actually she feels like she is getting to eat more because she gets to try so many things!

-One of my mentors Nina does something similar.   They also pull out the brightly colored non-food looking items.  They sample most of the candies and make a chart and rate them as to what each family member likes the best.  They make a game of it.

What do you do?  Do you let them go crazy for one day?  Do you ration?

Here is a Pumpkin Pudding Recipe for you to try!  You could use it as a dip or pudding, yummmmm!  I have tested this on kids and adults and so far it is a hit.
